Weddings currently make up the majority of the bookings for Piping Services Scotland, especially during the summer months. The partners and musicians used by piping services have vast and varied experience performing at weddings.

There are many different types of Wedding and different formats for the running order of a particular day, but all origins are catered for.

There are traditional Scottish Weddings, either at Churches, Registry Offices or in Hotels, then there are the slightly rarer Humanist and Spiritualist Weddings, usually held in Hotels or in the great outdoors. Piping Services Scotland also cater for Asian Weddings, including Muslim, Sikh and Hindu Weddings.

At traditional Scottish Weddings and Humanist or Spiritualist Weddings the Guests can be welcomed, then the Bride can be piped into the Ceremony. Following the Service itself, the Bride & Groom can then be piped out to wherever their photographs are being taken. Later in the proceedings, the Top Table can be piped into the reception room, followed by the grand entrance of the newly married couple.

At Asian Weddings, the format is usually slightly different, but Piping Services Scotland can provide solo pipers or a combination of pipers and drummers for both the Walima Reception and the Wedding Reception. A nice touch can be for the piper to be accompanied by a dhol player, ideal for the entrance of the Bride, or both the Bride & Groom, depending on the type of Reception.

Solo pipers carry out most of the Wedding bookings, however we have also provided additional pipers, drummers, mini-bands or full pipe bands on various occasions.

The majority of our Wedding bookings are still located in Scotland, however we have played at, or have priovided local pipers for, a number of Weddings in England, Wales, Ireland and even further afield into Europe and the United States of America.

All Wedding bookings are individually tailored to meet the requirements of either the couple or the families. Specific requests are welcome and Piping Services Scotland will endeavour to meet the requested criteria wherever possible, or at worst, recommend a suitable alternative.

The partners and staff at Piping Services Scotland understand how important a professional service is to our customers. We have experience in providing a sensitive and caring service whilst providing that personal touch with appropriately chosen music.

Our pipers have played at most types of ceremonies, from small to large, Scottish to oriental and (pretty much) everything in between. Private consultations can be arranged to discuss the choice of music and any personal wishes.

We have never been unable to provide a piper for a funeral since we set up Piping Services Scotland in 1996.

Burns Suppers

A regular event on any piper’s calendar is a Burns Supper. The Partners of Piping Services Scotland have many years experience playing at a variety of Burns Suppers and now also have some experience at organising and hosting Burns Suppers.

The Partners of Piping Services Scotland are all capable of delivering the Address to the Haggis, doing so on a regular basis, and have further experience of speaking at Burns Suppers, for Welcomes, Toasts to the Lassies and Immortal Memories. Further to this the Partners are also able to provide contact details for recommended Burns speakers, if required.

Some of the venues and organisations that use Piping Services Scotland for Burns Suppers and other related Rabbie Burns entertainment are The Turnberry Hotel, One Devonshire Gardens (Glasgow), Pollok House (Pollok Park, Glasgow), The Sandyford Burns Club, The Eglinton Arms Hotel (Eaglesham) and New Lanark Mill Hotel.

Corporate Functions

Corporate bookings and Dinners make up a large proportion of the piping outwith the main Wedding season, however more venues are having visiting parties all year round, so this type of function is becoming prominent in our calendars.

Piping Services accept a lot of independent commercial bookings, however a high proportion of this kind of engagement is received directly through hotels who offer Piping Services’ performers within their full function package.

Included within our current client listings are The Turnberry Hotel, New Lanark Mill Hotel, The Holiday Inn, The Redhurst Hotel (Giffnock), The Eglinton Arms Hotel (Eaglesham), The House For An Art Lover and Houstoun House Hotel (West Lothian).

On top of these venues we have a number of venues that recommend us in their list of suppliers. These include One Devonshire Gardens, Mar Hall (Earl of Mar Estate, Erskine), The Garfield Hotel (Stepps), Pollok House (Pollok Park, Glasgow), Ross Priory (Loch Lomond), Roman Camp Country House Hotel (Callander), Pollokshields Burgh Hall and Oran Mor (Glasgow).

We also have further regular engagements at the Glasgow Hilton Hotel, Glasgow Moathouse Hotel, Sherbrooke Castle Hotel (Glasgow), Crutherland House Hotel (East Kilbride), Brig O’ Doon Hotel (Ayr), Glenskirlie House (Banknock), Bothwell Bridge Hotel, Airth Castle & Hotel, Culcreuch Castle (Fintry), The Glasgow Hilton Grosvenor Hotel, Trades Halls of Glasgow and Eastwood House (East Renfrewshire).

The partners in Piping Services have experience arranging and performing in many different concerts. The arrangement of such an event includes organising the program and running order as well as setting up the venue itself.

Most of the concerts that Piping Services has been involved in have included the Williamwood Pipe Band, however occasionally other concert organisers request pipers or drummers to accompany dancers.

The PS Partners have taken part in concerts all over the world, although there is still a need to show off the local talents in and around our home country. Some of the local shows and concerts we have performed at include pipe band concerts at a local theatre, joint concerts with other organisations, held at The Royal Concert Hall and other concert venues around Glasgow, and occasional smaller groups in community centres and smaller venues.

The Williamwood Pipe Band normally organise one concert each year, around late Autumn or early Winter. This includes the full pipe band; combinations of pipers and drummers; solo piping; drum salutes; Highland or Irish dancers and occasionally invited guest performers. Previous concerts have included The Scottish Fiddle Orchestra, the East Renfrewshire Schools Orchestra, the Barrhead Burgh Band; The Auburn Singers (Barrhead); bands from the Albertslund Musikskole (Denmark), The Rogues, a Celtic group from Texas (U.S.A.) and some other local and overseas artistes.

Some of the overseas concerts include full pipe band concerts in Denmark, Germany, Spain and The Czech Republic, smaller concerts with a mini band in Australia and Chicago and some solo work within bigger concerts in Turkey, France and Italy. For details of this please visit our ‘playing away’ pages of this website.

The size of the audiences have varied enormously, from a few specially invited individuals, through small groups of music lovers right up to large crowds congregating in town squares, marquees and stadiums.
